Hi, I’m Caroline!
Growing up in a military family, I moved up and down the East Coast before eventually settling in Chesapeake, Virginia, where I spent most of my childhood. I attended Chesapeake Public Schools and loved every minute of it. My mom, a special education teacher, unknowingly inspired my love for education. During her summers off, if we weren’t at the beach, I was busy playing “teacher” with my younger siblings. From an early age, I knew I wanted to work with students.
After graduating from Grassfield High School’s STEM Academy, I went on to study History with a concentration in Secondary Education at Old Dominion University. Some of the most pivotal moments in my high school and college years came from the guidance of incredible teachers, professors, and advisors who helped me navigate the complexities of the college application and financial aid processes. Their impact showed me just how transformative a mentor’s support can be on a student’s academic and professional journey.
After student teaching at Oscar Smith High School, I was fortunate to return to my alma mater, Grassfield High School. Much of my focus is on supporting students as they transition into high school and start planning for graduation. I work closely with diverse groups of students to help them create personalized academic and post-graduate goals. What has stuck with me from all the classes I’ve taken isn’t the content, but the academic skills I gained. I’m passionate about helping students build foundational skills like organization, time management, and goal setting—tools that will serve them well in college and beyond.
Writing is a core part of the skills we develop in my classroom. Many of my students come in hesitant to write, especially when faced with open-ended or creative tasks. With practice, encouragement, and guidance, I aim to help them develop writing skills that extend beyond historical essays—skills they can confidently apply to personal statements, supplemental essays, and scholarship applications.
When I’m not working, you can usually find me reading, baking sourdough bread, wandering through museums, or swimming in the ocean.
